Knowing someone. What does this mean to you? When you know someone, you know their name, their face, and you have spent time with them. Similarly, it is this way with God.
While we may not have seen Him in the flesh, we can encounter God in the Spirit. Likewise, we can know God by His attributes and by His love for us. Most importantly, we can spend quality time with Him and walk with Him daily.
However, the only way to do any of these things is through Jesus Christ. While we can hear of God, read His word, or go to church, none of these things mean we “know” God. Sure, all of these things can help introduce us to God, but knowing God begins with knowing His Son.
Think about it. Think about someone you know of or know the name of. You may attend the same class or live in the same neighborhood, but do you know them personally? Have you had conversations with them or spent one one one time together? If the answer is no, do you really know them?
Finally, such is the way every person must examine their own relationship with God. That is, if one intends to have one. If anyone desires to be one with God, they must know Jesus first. In John 14:6, Jesus reminds us of this. Plainly, He lets us know that He is the only way to get to God.
Why? The sin in our lives keeps us separated from God. Until we ask God for forgiveness and accept Jesus into our lives, having a relationship with God is not possible (1 John 1:7-9).
Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.John 14:6
