Spiritual gifts. All of God’s children have been given them (1 Corinthians 12). Through Christ, we are all connected to God and are a part of His family (Ephesians 1:23). When God created us, He created us for a purpose (Jeremiah 29:11). Our gifts and talents were given to us to honor God in that purpose.

Along with these gifts, we have God’s Spirit living on the inside of us (1 Corinthians 3:16). The Holy Spirit enables us to use our gifts when and how they are meant to be used. This takes faith, obedience, and humility on our parts. Such an attitude enables us to recognize that our gifts are not only for us but to be shared with others. Again, this attitude comes from the Holy Spirit.

Through the Holy Spirit, we are able to use our gifts to support and encourage others in the body of Christ (Romans 12:6). As well, the Holy Spirit teaches us how to use our gifts to lead others to Christ. The Holy Spirit also helps us to realize that there is room for all of us in the service of the Lord. Thus, cooperation and love can rule in our hearts and in our deeds.

In closing, all of God’s children have an important role in His kingdom. Knowing this, we are able to humble ourselves. We are also willing to witness to others and to be used by God. When we live this way, we honor God, one another, and ourselves.
