When I was younger, there was a song that a choir sang about God bringing us from a mighty long way. It talked about coming through the storms and winds and how we were sometimes up and sometimes down. Life can be like that. Yet, each time God brings you through a storm, you realize that the winds did not and cannot overpower you.

While you were going through it, it hurt. Sure, it hurt a lot. There were days and nights that were so long, and you didn’t know how you would make it out alive. You cried so many tears of disappointment that you could only pray for a better tomorrow.

For a while, that better tomorrow never came. In its place were nothing but dark days and uneasy moments. With all of your might, you prayed and kept on believing that you were going to make it. Then, out of nowhere, it changed.

It is like that. Every time God comes through and makes a way for you, you do not know how it happened. You just know that God did it. Every time the storm clouds lift, you learn to step a bit lighter. You smile more often. Your mood becomes more expectant, and the joy of the Lord becomes stronger in your heart.

With each new storm, you are ready. You know that, every time, you will make it. You know, because you have made it before. Now, when hard times come and storm winds blow, you don’t feel so alarmed. You have been here before, but it is different now.

Instead of the tears and the long nights, you begin to praise God for the victory that He has already won. If you do not see it now, then soon. Eventually, God will calm the seas with a word of peace. You have learned that about Him. Come what may, you are never alone in the storm.

And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.
