A Relationship With Jesus

While coming to know Jesus starts with a confession of faith in Him (Romans 10:9), having a personal relationship with Jesus requires so much more. For example, it requires reading, learning, and understanding the Word for yourself and using it in your life. It also means desiring and taking alone time, in prayer, and listening to what the Holy Spirit will speak to you about Jesus and the Father in heaven.

In addition to these things, how you live shows the kind of relationship you have with Jesus. This includes all that you say and do. Likewise, it includes your attitude.

Are you seeking to do things God’s way or your own? Are you allowing the love of God to rule your heart? Certainly, these are all things that we can grow in.

You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. Jeremiah 29:13

When you seek Jesus as Savior, you will also need to desire Him to be your Lord. This means allowing Jesus to lead you in your decisions. As you seek intimacy with Him, your relationship with him will look different than when it began. As a result, you will listen to Jesus more.

However, your relationship will be tested. When you are weak, weary, or worn, you will need to seek Jesus. When things are well or going totally wrong, you will need to do the same. The time is always right to glean all that you can from the Lord.

May you not ignore when you are struggling or feeling disconnected from Jesus. Right away, may you go to Jesus in prayer. May you go to Him, in the Spirit. May you be honest about what you need from Jesus and what you are going through, because Jesus already knows.

Come to Me, all of you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Matthew 11:28

May you not allow time and silence or distance to separate you from the Lord. This will only estrange you from Him and make it easier for the enemy to attack you in your weaknesses. Waiting will also make it more difficult for you to turn to Jesus and to admit that you need his help.

Regardless of how long it has been, you can seek Him today. Finally, remember, that none of us are great at maintaining our relationship with Jesus. Yet, we must do all we can to hold on to it.

Jesus is your gift and your blessing. Cherish Him. Hold your relationship with Jesus higher than any other relationship in your life. When you do this, all other areas of your life will always be blessed and covered by Him.

So the LORD must wait for you to come to him so he can show you his love and compassion. For the LORD is a faithful God. Blessed are those who wait for his help.

Isaiah 30:18
